Maths and Numeracy Training

If you think that maths is only applicable at school, and in the real world you can use a calculator for everything, including business, then it is important to appreciate how relevant numberacy skills are in modern business.

man Having a 'feel' for numbers is important in a whole range of cases, from understanding your costs, a basic appreciation of accounting and simply working out what percentage of your marketing budget to spend on various things and even what the concept of a 'percentage' is.

For many, anything other than simple addition fills them with terror, and most of us could do with a refresher in simple but very relevant mathematical skills, such as converting between fractions and percentages, and understanding how statistical statements using mathematical language can mislead us, and on other occasions, reveal important business truths.

With a range of practical examples and clear explanations, our maths and numeracy brain training workshops provide a great refresher and confidence builder in maths, with many useful applications in business.

As a simple example of how useful even basic maths skills can be, we were given an example by a bank worker of a colleague guessing answers to this scenario: he had been quoted a price of £920 for 23 units of a certain product. He was trying to work out what the cost was for each unit, by guessing a unit cost and then seeing if he got nearer / further from the figure of £920 each time! All he needed to do was divide 920 / 23 to find the unit cost was £40, but for those with poor maths and numeracy, this is not at all obvious. Posed as a 'solve for x' question as 23x = 920, it may still not be obvious that x = 920/23.
