It may sound boring, but knowing how to spell words correctly is important. It may seem hard because lots of English words are not written as they sound when you speak them (English is not what is called a phonetic language).

Here are a list of ten words in English, for each word two options are given. See if you can pick out the right spelling using UK / British English each time. The answers are at the bottom of the page, so don't peek at them until you have given the test a go!

How did you do? Find out now, because the answers are:

Cough, colour (UK English remember), definitely, grammar, through, exercise, stationary, weird, acceptable, grateful. If you didn't do too well, then don't worry - the important thing is to learn the correct spellings for any that you got wrong.
